About this video
In this video i have explained
1.What is a sentence?
A sentence is a group of words that makes complete sense.
As we know that group of letters that has meaning combine to form word. So a group of words that makes sense is called as sentence.
A sentence has two parts (i.e subject and predicate) A subject is the person or thing we talk about and a predicate is what is said about subject.
Here we will go in detail how to identify a subject and a predicate in a sentence.
What is a subject?
A subject is the person or thing we are talking about as well we can ask who/what to identify the subject.
What is a predicate?
A predicate means what is said about the subject. When the subject is separated the predicate remains.
The trick to identify the predicate is - it has a verb and a object and the predicate always begins with a verb, it may be a helping verb or the main verb. If you are able to identify the verb then you can find easily find the predicate. Always remember that action words are called verb and a sentence has a subject, verb and object.
Let's go through some examples
1.Meena goes to school.
In this sentence the verb (goes) so the predicate becomes goes to school and the person whom we are talking about is Meena so (Meena) is the subject of the sentence.
2.My dog plays with me.
In this sentence whom we are talking about (My dog) so My dog is the subject and as we know that a predicate begins with a verb so plays with me is the predicate.
3.Sneha is drinking apple juice.
In this sentence we have two verb i.e is - helping verb and drinking - main verb so the predicate becomes is drinking apple juice and about whom we are talking here is Sneha so sneha is the subject of the sentence.
Once you understand the trick to identify the predicate then you will never face problem in identifying subject and predicate. So go through some more examples and clear your doubt if you face difficulties then you can ask me in the comments section below.
